Currently, 65 higher education institutions of different ownership and accreditation levels train specialists in Kharkiv, among which 17 universities and 9 academies, and Kharkiv Technological University "SHAG" is one of them. The total number of students at Kharkiv universities is 171,298 (as of 2017, it is the second largest city after our capital). The number of students per 100,000 population is 5.89 (in comparison with Kyiv – 7.72). The largest number of foreigners study at universities in Kharkiv - 20,925, Kyiv - 12,950 and Odesa - 6,972. The largest number of students are from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and India. The top 10 countries of origin of students also include Nigeria, Morocco, Georgia, Jordan, Iraq, China and Uzbekistan.
Kharkiv Technological University "IT STEP"
Kharkiv Technological University "SHAG" was established on February 12, 2018 by the decision of the General Meeting of Founders, official registration took place on February 21, 2018, that is, this is the date of birth. The first rector of the university was Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Serhiy Kavun. The head of the University in the period 2019-2023 was Vitaly Zaitsev, doctor of technical sciences, professor. He not only managed the university successfully for almost 4 years, but is also the guarantor of the educational and professional training program for bachelors in the specialty 126 "Information systems and technologies". He is an expert of the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education in field 13 "Mechanical Engineering" (specialties 133 "Industrial Mechanical Engineering and 134 "Aviation and Rocket Space Engineering") and in field 27 "Transport" (specialty 272 "Aircraft Maintenance") .
During the management of the university, the number of students studying in specialties 073 "Management" and 126 "IST" increased from 16 people to more than 100. Thanks to the efforts of V.E. Zaitsev. and the team of teachers and staff that he has gathered around him, the number of students increases every year.
The university rose in the ranking of higher education institutions from the last 241st place to the 152nd place. The university ranks 12th in the rating of privately owned higher education institutions.
Under the leadership of Zaitsev V.E. the university became one of the founders of the Kharkiv cluster "Engineering - Automation - Mechanical Engineering"; a valid member of the Kharkiv IT Cluster; a member of the Mechatronics Innovative Aerospace Cluster. Zaitsev V.E. is one of the active members of the Educational Committee of the Kharkiv IT Cluster, his initiatives to improve the quality of higher IT education are implemented not only in the Kharkiv Technical University "SHAG", but also in other higher education institutions of Kharkiv.
Since September 2023, candidate of economic sciences, associate professor Olena Dudnyk has been appointed rector of the university. Olena Vasylivna has a long experience in scientific, pedagogical and administrative work, is an expert of the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education, an Expert of the National Agency of Qualifications and an Expert of accreditation examinations of the OP of vocational pre-higher education of the State Education Center for Education Quality of Ukraine. Awarded with the Thanks of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2021), Certificate of the Department of Science and Education of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration (2018).
"IT STEP" Technical University is the first and only higher education institution in Ukraine, in which only technical disciplines are taught in technical specialties! This is the only higher education institution in which the percentage of classroom hours for all disciplines is 57% on average! This is the first higher education institution that introduced training according to a fundamentally new training program, which teaches only what is necessary and relevant, and does not skimp on hours in the disciplines.

An international educational institution specializing in IT education. The Academy has three key areas of study: software development, networks and cyber security, and computer graphics and design.
